Frequently asked questions

Understanding the value

How does Causli calculate the value of a watch?

We start from the asking prices of certified dealers and private listings recorded for the exact reference, then for the model. Failing that, we apply the brand's usual value retention to the retail price. Condition, box and papers, age and a recent service then adjust the amount.

Is the valuation a buy-back offer?

No. The value is indicative: it places your watch's market value. A professional who buys takes a margin for reconditioning and warranty; that is why we also show a lower trade-in value.

Why do the box and papers change the price so much?

The warranty card proves the origin and the date of sale. Without it, the buyer bears an authenticity and provenance risk that he prices in, all the more so in haute horlogerie.

Where do the prices come from?

From the brands' retail prices, certified dealer listings and asking prices between private individuals. Auction results will be added. Each model page states the number of observations behind its median.
