On 26 March 2022, Swatch and Omega launched eleven bioceramic chronographs borrowing the silhouette of the Speedmaster Moonwatch, priced at around €250. The queues outside boutiques made headlines around the world, and resale listings showed several times the retail price for a few weeks. Four years and dozens of variants later, the MoonSwatch has become a market in its own right: some editions resell below their boutique price, others above. Here is how to find your way.

What a MoonSwatch is (and is not)

A MoonSwatch is a Swatch: a bioceramic case (a blend of ceramic and plant-based material), a quartz movement, a domed mineral crystal. It reproduces the design of the Speedmaster's asymmetric case, the three sub-dials of the chronograph and the dual "Omega × Swatch" signature on the dial. It is not an Omega: it has neither the mechanical movement, nor the warranty, nor the after-sales service. Omega does not even sell it in its boutiques.

This matters for resale. The market does not value a MoonSwatch like a haute horlogerie watch but like a fast-moving collectible, whose value depends almost entirely on the perceived rarity of the edition.

The main edition families

Since 2022, Swatch has multiplied variants, often sold under special rules (on a full-moon day, over a set period, in one country). The dates below are those published by Swatch or consistently reported by the press; where sources diverged, we stick to the year.

  • The eleven planets (March 2022): Mission to the Moon, to Mars, to Mercury, to Venus, to Jupiter, to Saturn, to Uranus, to Neptune, to Pluto, to the Sun, and Mission on Earth. These are the models of the permanent collection.
  • Mission to Moonshine Gold (from March 2023): the chronograph seconds hand is in Moonshine Gold, Omega's 18-carat gold alloy. The variants came out on full-moon days, with different patterns depending on the month.
  • Mission to the Moonphase "Snoopy" (2024): a black version and a white version, with Snoopy in the moon phase indicator, a nod to the "Silver Snoopy" award given to Omega by NASA.
  • Mission on Earth "nature" and Earthphase (2024): in June, three new colours inspired by natural phenomena; at the end of the year, an Earth phase indicator.
  • MoonSwatch 1965 (March 2025): a grey and white version, announced at around €275 according to the press.
  • Earthphase Moonshine Gold (2025–2026): a series of pieces tied to the year's moons. The last one, Cold Moon, launched on 4 December 2025, was sold until 20 March 2026 in participating boutiques, but only when it was snowing in Switzerland, according to the Swatch Group's press release.
  • Mission to the Moon 1969 (July 2026): the first true numbered limited edition, 1,969 numbered pieces, 500 Swiss francs, with 11 grams of Moonshine Gold for the dial, hands, crown and pushers. It was only available by ballot, after an online questionnaire.

Mission to the Moon 19692026CHF 500too recent for a reliable trend

Three remarks for reading this table. First, boutique prices have shifted slightly by country and year: check the price displayed by the boutique on the day you buy. Second, observed resale is a trend recorded on auction and resale platforms, not a guaranteed price: a new MoonSwatch planet commonly changes hands there for between €190 and €330 depending on the colour and the moment. Finally, the most spectacular listings (a Cold Moon Snoopy listed at nearly 1,000 dollars, for example) are asking prices, not prices paid.

Which colours resell best

Among the eleven planets, the gaps are small. At launch, every colour resold at a premium, higher on the most photographed shades; supply has since largely recovered, as Swatch produces these models continuously, and the gaps between colours have narrowed. The Mission to the Moon, the most faithful to the original Speedmaster, remains the most liquid: it is the one that sells fastest, without necessarily selling for more.

The real premiums are concentrated on what Swatch made rare through its sales rules: a single day, a single country, a weather condition. The Mission to the Sun "Solar Eclipse", sold only on 12 August 2026 and only in Spain, is the most recent example. Those editions behave like collectibles; the others, like mass-produced watches.

Where to buy a MoonSwatch

  • In a Swatch boutique: this is the only official channel for most editions, with no online sales. Only some boutiques carry the bioceramic collection, and the list is on Swatch's website.
  • By ballot: the Mission to the Moon 1969 was only sold to applicants selected after registering online. Other editions may follow this model.
  • On the secondary market: resale platforms, online auctions, private sellers. It is the only way to get a sold-out edition, but it is also where fakes circulate.

Fakes: the checkpoints

The MoonSwatch is one of the most copied watches in the world, precisely because its low price makes a copy credible. Before buying outside a boutique:

  1. Insist on the original box and papers, with the receipt from an identifiable Swatch boutique. A full set does not prove everything, but its absence on a recent edition should raise a flag.
  2. Look at the finishing: printing of the sub-dials, alignment of the tachymeter scale (the "dot over 90" is a detail taken from early Speedmasters), caseback engraving, quality of the velcro strap.
  3. Be wary of prices that are too low on a rare edition: a Moonshine Gold Snoopy offered at the price of a planet is almost never a good deal.
  4. Prefer a platform that authenticates or an in-person hand-over with checks. Our article on scams between private individuals details the most frequent scenarios.

Is a MoonSwatch worth it?

As an object, yes: it is an inexpensive way to wear the Speedmaster's design. As an investment, rarely. Most editions resell at their purchase price, sometimes below, once platform fees are paid. Only the editions with very restrictive sales rules command a lasting premium, and it remains modest in absolute terms.

Above all, the MoonSwatch has had an unexpected effect: it revived interest in the real Speedmaster. If it has made you want to move to the original, read our article on Speedmaster Moonwatch market value.

  • Before buying pre-owned: ask for the receipt and the box, and compare at least three sold listings, not just listed ones.

In short

The MoonSwatch is not an Omega, and its market value reflects that: the planets resell around their boutique price, the shortest-run Moonshine Gold and Snoopy editions at a premium. If you own the Speedmaster that inspired it, or another collector's watch, calculate its market value: the reference, year and condition are enough to get a range based on our price surveys.
